Reports have been surfacing about hundreds of Colombian former soldiers being hired by the United Arab Emirates government to fight in Yemen. Colombia has experienced a six decade-long civil conflict, and its battle-hardened former servicemen have been hired in the past by private security companies for deployment in Afghanistan, Iraq and other hotspots. The BBC’s Luis Fajardo spoke to Yineth Bedoya, the subeditor of Colombia’s largest newspaper, El Tiempo. She has spoken to Colombians who say they have been deployed to Yemen as part of the Emirati army.
