Private Guns in Sub-Saharan Africa

The abundance of instability, conflicts, and crime in Sub-Saharan Africa has led to the deployment there of private military and security companies. These concerns, which do the bidding of whomever pays them, have been used for everything from protecting mines and oil terminals to conducting full military operations. Ensuring that these private guns follow national laws and international norms is a challenge both the industry and Sub-Saharan Africa states say they seek to achieve. VOA’s Jeffery Young Reports.
